SITE HISTORY (MARK FOSTER'S SITE) Collapse/Expand
This location is a major terminal and switching location for traffic carried over microwave radio and several coaxial and now fiber optic cables. With a 4ESS digital electronic toll switch, this site probably served as either a Primary Center or as a Sectional Center in the old Bell System 5 level switching hierarchy. Presumably, much traffic from the metropolitan New York area was routed through here. Its current status is unknown, although several vehicles were seen in the lot on the Sunday that this photo was taken. The next major station to the north is at Netcong, NJ, which is also the site of AT&T;'s underground operations center for controlling their network in the event of nuclear attack.
