Site History Collapse/Expand
According to historic aerial imagry, the site was constructed in late 1954 to early 1955 as the 1955 aerial imagry shows a crane putting up sections of the tower. According to aerial imagry from 1988 the tower did not yet have the height increased but a 1992 aerial imagry shows the taller tower built on the top with the newer model Gabriel KS 21972 cone antennas (which this was done because the tower was too short for the terrain). As the tower got height increased, there had to be work done to strengthen the tower so it can support more weight as each cone antenna weighs 2 tons. When the long lines network slowly became obsolete the Baraboo site was shut down in 1994. Today the tower is owned by ATC which leases space on the tower to cellular carriers for being a prime location.
